Team Preps for Nationals

The 2020-2021 season of cheerleading brought many new beginnings and changes, one of them being adding several new male athletes to the cheerleading team. Although it wasn't always easy for them to adapt to the sport of cheerleading, it didn't take much time for them to understand. They have pushed through and tried new tumbling skills, and even stunting that they have never done before.

KeAndre Braxton 22' talks about his experience at his very first competition, he explains it as

"a different but exciting nervous feeling", he says "the team was working well together and that's why we did so well on the mat". Braxton 22' hopes to do even better at nationals. His goals are to "take practice more serious while hitting all my stunts and tumbling passes at least four times during a practice"

'24 Mason Smith shares his experience joining the team,

"A few girls on the team told me to join and at first, I didn't think anything serious about it, but after a few weeks of going to practice's I began to really like cheer."

Smith also does gymnastics, so he brought his tumbling skills from that into cheerleading.

The boys have impacted the team in a positive way, always bringing fun into practice and even keeping the energy up on competition day.

Oak Park Cheerleading competes the 22nd and 23rd of January in Dallas, Texas for Nationals.
