This week, we proudly spotlight senior cheerleader
Illiana Nova, an inspiring leader to her Oak Park cheer team! Illiana first joined the cheer team as a freshman, inspired by her sister's experience in 2020. Over the years, her hard work, dedication, and love for the sport have earned her the title of Athlete of the Week.
Reflecting on her favorite memory, Illiana recalls winning the state championship in 2023 as a junior. This was a moment that cemented her love for cheer. She stays motivated by cherishing each performance, knowing her time with the team is precious. "I cherish every moment like it's the last," she shares.
Illiana's skills speak volumes about her dedication. With her signature move, a back handspring up to a lib, she is always impressing the crowd. Despite the nerves before big events like pep rallies and competitions, she channels her energy into enjoying the performance and striving for perfection.
Beyond her incredible routines, Illiana wants others to understand that cheerleading is no easy feat. "The routine is 2-3 minutes, and the whole time you're moving, smiling, and talking," she says, highlighting the endurance and skill required.
To incoming OP cheerleaders, her advice is simple but powerful: "Stay motivated and learn new skills. Gaining new skills is like an addiction." Illiana's commitment to growth and passion for cheer make her an exceptional athlete and a role model for her team.
Congratulations to
Illiana Nova, our Athlete of the Week!
