Oak Park High School

ESports Team - Adding Chess.com Team

Oak Park ESports is off to a Great Start

ESPORTS CHESS TEAM

Esports | 10/10/2024 10:44:00 AM

In August, we started an eSports team for Oak Park for athletes that want to play video games competitively. Starting with a small group of players a team was formed to play Valorant and Rocket League. By the time registration rolled around, we had 20 e-athletes. The team has added several new games including games on the Nintendo Switch and soon to be adding XBOX/Playstation games including Madden and NBA2K. One of the other important games that our team wanted to add was Chess. Students wanting to play chess competitively against other high school teams can now sign up for eSports. Chess teams consist of three players.

Three players will face three other players rotating for three matches. The games are played until home or away have won a majority of the games. If the home or visitor team wins four games, the competition is over. If it is a 3 to 3 tie.

"I really hope to see chess players in our school join this new team. If they don't know how to play chess, we will have people that can teach you and student-athletes can learn from each other. The practices are very flexible, but matches are required. We do have the option to have bench players so that a game could be missed.

If you'd like to join the eSports Chess club, or play any other eSports games, complete this form.
