Competitor of the Week:
Oak Park High School senior
Kimberly Greene has been making waves this season. Recognized as Competitor of the Week, Kimberly's outstanding performances and dedication to swimming have been a driving force for the Oak Park swim team.
Her most recent achievements include two first-place finishes at the December 11th meet against Staley, Oak Park, and North Kansas City at Blue Springs. Kimberly dominated the Girls 100-Yard Butterfly, finishing with a stellar time of 1:04.76, and followed it up with a victory in the Girls 100-Yard Breaststroke, clocking in at 1:16.17.
This wasn't her first time on top of the podium. In the December 4th meet against Liberty North, she took first in the Women's 100-Yard Freestyle, finishing at 58.83, setting the tone for another strong month of competition. Her most recent results from her meet against Park Hill South on December 17th showcase a third-place finish in the 100-Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:06.45, and a second-place finish in the 200-Yard Individual Medley, touching the wall at 2:19.99.
Kimberly's journey in swimming began at the age of five, racing for the Gladstone Gators Summer Swim Team. Her love for the sport grew from there, inspired by her mother, who swam in her youth, and her brother, who competed on her club team during his high school years. Today, Kimberly reflects fondly on the sense of community she's built through swimming. "Getting to practice and go to meets with my closest friends is the best," she shared.
Despite facing many strong competitors this season, Kimberly remains focused on her personal goals and motivation. Whether it's striving for faster times or enjoying the camaraderie of her team, she continues to bring her best to every meet.
Kimberly's accomplishments in the pool and her enthusiasm for the sport make her a standout athlete and a source of pride for the Oak Park High School swim team. Congratulations, Kimberly, on being named Competitor of the Week!
