Northmen Neutralize the Griffins in Week 1

In a thrilling North Kansas City District rivalry clash, the Oak Park High School Northmen went head-to-head with the Winnetonka Griffins in a football battle that left fans on the edge of their seats. The final score revealed an impressive performance by the Oak Park Northmen, securing a victory of 55-21 against the Winnetonka Griffins.

First Quarter

The game kicked off with a display of determination from both sides. Oak Park's #1 ‘25 Travon Pankey initiated the scoring with an assertive 5-yard run, backed by a successful kick by #81 ’25 Zander Culp, giving the Northmen an early 7-0 lead. 

The Winnetonka Griffins responded with a resilient 36-yard run for a touchdown, swiftly followed by a successful kick, leveling the playing field at 7-7. 

Oak Park's #2 ‘24 Aiden Hinkle showcased his passing prowess as he connected with #7 ’24 Evan Braxton for a 9-yard touchdown pass. 

Oak Park’s #32 '25 Caedin Fields started the defense off strong with a tackle for a loss of two. 

Oak Park’s defense kept pressure on the Griffins offense, denying them the first down after an incomplete pass.

Second Quarter

The Oak Park Northmen continued to build momentum in the second quarter. Travon Pankey's 20-yard run for a touchdown, coupled with a precise kick by Zander Culp, extended their lead to 21-7. 

Aiden Hinkle made his presence known with an electrifying 57-yard run for a touchdown, though the subsequent kick was unsuccessful, leaving Oak Park ahead 27-7. 

Hinkle's arm remained a powerful asset as he connected with #14 '25 Drew Clemens for a 38-yard pass, further expanding the lead to 33-7. 

Pankey's 3-yard run, followed by a successful two-point conversion run by Hinkle. Oak Park’s defense did not allow any points to be scored this quarter along with Matthew Salario’s Kick that was fumbled by the Griffins and recovered by the Northmen deep in Griffin territory. Northmen take a 41-7 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter

 Travon Pankey continued to shine in the third quarter, breaking free for a remarkable 58-yard run and adding another touchdown to the Northmen's tally, solidifying their lead at 48-7. 

The Winnetonka Griffins fought back with determination, executing a 71-yard pass for a touchdown, trimming the deficit to 48-14. 

The Northmen’s defense once again played big, including another Caedin Fields tackle for a loss of five yards and a Cam Wahl tackle with a loss of two yards in the 3rd quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The final quarter saw both teams giving it their all. Winnetonka managed a 16-yard pass for a touchdown, inching closer at 48-21. 

Northmen's #8 ‘25 Emanuel Kok, accompanied by #9 ’24 Churchill Coates, came up big on a QB scramble for a loss of 11 yards against the Griffins. 

#23 '24 Madden Garcia's 3-yard run for a touchdown and  Zander Culp's accurate kick solidified the Northmen's commanding victory with a final score of 55-21.

Travon Pankey's standout performance, supported by the precision of Aiden Hinkle, propelled the Northmen to a decisive victory. 

The Griffins put up a spirited fight but could not find a crack in the Northmen's armour in all three phases of the game. 

The Northmen defense stepped up to the plate and fought hard to hold the Griffins. 

Fans were treated to an action-packed game that encapsulated the spirit of a high school Friday night.

Northmen return home in week 2 to host the (0-1) Ruskin Eagles.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
