Senior Spotlight: M. Tennis

Oak Park Tennis 2020 was led by a group of four seniors who started their careers together as freshmen: Nate Adams, Bryan Genau, Joshua Kueck, and Enrique Ruiz. In the first weeks of practice this season two truths were clear: (1) all four were taking their game to a new level, and (2) they were ready to work together, push each other, and lead the rest of the team to build on last season's 2nd place Conference finish. It was a season of great promise.

Enrique Ruiz
2019 saw Enrique's gradual rise through the ranks from Varsity #6 to the #2 spot, an impressive feat for a player with no experience prior to his freshman year. While watching one of Enrique's matches last season, a top opposing player with years of club experience probably paid him the best complement, asking "How are his strokes so good?" As good as Enrique's game had become, his attitude and sportsmanship on court were even better, and that example will be missed.

Joshua Kueck
Despite being new to the sport his freshman year, Josh Kueck's very first match was as a varsity singles player. As a 4-year varsity letterman, his natural strokes and explosive forehand made him a danger from anywhere in the backcourt. In addition, his sportsmanship and calm demeanor on court, both in victory and defeat, provided an example that will be missed next season.

Bryan Genau
The third Genau brother to grace Oak Park's tennis courts, and the fleetest of foot, Bryan provided important early wins at the #3 spot last season, including OPT's first singles and doubles victories of 2019. His aggressive net play made him one of the team's most dependable doubles players, and his easy playing style made for success with a variety of doubles partners.

Nathan Adams
Coming off a winning 2019 season at the varsity #1 spot, 4-year letterman Nate Adams looked ready to pick up where he left off. As a freshman new to tennis in 2017, Nate quickly climbed from JV to varsity with the same tenacity and competitive spirit that last year gave him victories over some of the top players in the area. Nate was on course to repeat as an all-Conference player, and had hoped to be a serious threat at this year's District tournament.
