Phil served as Stuco president at OPHS in 1966-67. He was a state debate champion in 1967. He also was the Pep Band director and participated in Boys' State, drama club and other school activities.

Following graduation from William Jewell, he earned a Master’s degree in counseling from UMKC, and then embarked on a career leading to the position of President and CEO of Pryor Resources, a provider of business training seminars. In 1999 he received the William Jewell College Citation of Achievement in recognition of career accomplishments.

Following retirement, he enrolled at the Central Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Master's in Religious Studies. Phil was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Seminary and later became Board Chairman. In 2012, he was given the Alumnus of the Year Award. In 2014, he earned a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

He has served on numerous non-profit boards including the KC Association for Mental Health, Angel Flight Central where he was a Volunteer, a Pilot of the year in 2007, Yale Center for Faith and Culture Advisory Board and church Board Chair.

Phil currently serves as Managing Director of the Center of Faith and Culture at Yale Divinity School.

Phil is married to Patty, has 2 married children, 6 grandchildren, and lives in the Plaza area of KC.
