Coach Zane Tanner started his coaching career as a student assistant under Tom Smith at Missouri Western State University. He was named the 21st boys head coach at West Platte high school in 1997. He is the all-time leader in wins in boys’ basketball at West Platte high school amassing over 300 wins. In his 17 years as the head coach, he guided the Bluejays to their first West Platte Platte the Bluejays won 5 conference titles; 9 district titles and made it to the final four in (2003, 2006, 2008, and 2013).
Coach Tanner took over the boys’ basketball program at Kearney high school in 2015. In his second year the bulldogs made it to the Elite 8 before losing to Bolivar in the quarterfinals. In 2017, Coach Tanner was named the varsity girls’ coach at Oak Park high school. Last season (2020), the Oakies won the conference for the first time in school history, with a record of 10-2.
Coach Tanner is married to Brandy Tanner, they have 4 boys. Tyler (16), Adam (13) Luke (7) and Jayke (6).
