Oak Park High School congratulates senior bowler
Alex Beals as this week's Performer of the Week, honoring standout performance, leadership, and a deep commitment to the sport. Beals has been a cornerstone of the bowling team for four years, serving as captain for the past three. With a first place finish earlier this season and a state tournament appearance coming up on May 24, Beals has helped lead the program to new heights.
The journey began at Gladstone Bowl in a Saturday morning youth league back in first grade. Over time, Beals developed a love for the sport through dedicated coaches, tough competition, and countless hours on the lanes. That passion turned into serious skill learning. Six qualifications for Junior Gold, the national tournament for youth bowlers, and competing in multiple leagues and tournament series along the way.
During team practices, Beals takes training seriously. They're focusing on spare shooting, strike shots, and adapting to varying lane conditions with different bowling balls. As a leader, Beals helps guide others through baker and Dutch doubles formats, always pushing the team to improve. Beyond the scores, though, Beals credits the team dynamic for helping build confidence and resilience. "One bad shot doesn't define the whole day," Beals said, reflecting on the mental challenges of the sport.
With plans to continue bowling at the University of Central Missouri for the Jennies, Beals leaves behind a legacy of hard work, encouragement, and grit. For anyone thinking about joining the team, their advice is simple: "Just show up and try it. All you need is a good attitude and the willingness to learn."
