The Jitters

The first quarter of the first Oak Park-North Kansas City football game was marked the "THE JITTERS" for both teams. Penalties, mostly off side and procedure, dominated.

The Hornets had the first opportunity to score when the Northmen gave up a fumble at their own 16. The Northmen escaped by picking off a Hornet pass.

An offside penalty stopped a Big Blue drive in the second quarter. A second Hornet opportunity to score was stopped by a Northman interception.

The Big Blue returned the ball to the NKC 21 but could not score.

The half ended 0-0.

The second half was marked by several exchanges of the ball and
more penalties.

Finally the Northmen put together a drive powered by
Harold Grissum that carried into the end zone. The extra point missed but it didn't really matter.

NKC mounted a fourth quarter drive but could not score and the Big Blue took the game 6-0.

Hornet Mike Kumpy presented the game ball to Steve Scholl and Oak Park supporters declared that it had been a good first year-the start of a long tradition of "GOOD YEARS."
