If you happened to be in the vicinity of Oak Park High School on Saturday night, it was hard not to notice the glow from the field and the unmistakable sounds of a crowd cheering, whistles blowing, and the sounds of football in the air.
Oak Park Football held their annual Blue-on-Blue scrimmage which gives the community the first opportunity to see all levels compete against each other during this inter squad scrimmage.
"It's always a great opportunity for us to get to knock off the rust, and see all the work our players have put in this summer," assistant coach Eric Whited. "There are always a few guys who catch your eye and surprise you when we do things like this."
Roughly 300 Fans were on hand to view to a combination of every level on Saturday Night. The scrimmage started with some special teams play, then moved to a very competitive match-up between the Northmen JV and C-Teams.
"You don't know what you really have until you strap it up and go live, so this provides us a great opportunity to see where we need to prepare going into Week 1." head coach Kenneth Clemens.
As the night moved on under the lights of Oak Park, the Varsity teams finally had there opportunity to hit the field.
"I think it went really well. It was a lot of fun having our fans out there and getting a chance to be under the lights," senior Jeffrey Banks. "We played with a lot of effort, and I think we could do something special this season."
Oak Park High School will be competing at the NKC Jamboree on Friday, August 23rd, at the District Football Stadium located at North Kansas City High School. The Northmen will begin regular season play on Friday August 30th when they travel to Platte City to take on the Pirates of Platte County.
